Description |
Modern polished half calf with marbled boards, original plain blue wrappers bound in. Some general light foxing, water-stain to upper inner corners of preliminaries. "Following his early education in Stockholm, he was appointed a registrar at the Royal War College. He became associated with Carl Stenborg as early as 1780, translating French opéras comiques and German Singspiels into Swedish. These included works such as Nu är hin lös (Hiller’s Der Teufel ist los, 1787) and Konung Rickard Lejonhjerta (Grétry’s Richard Coeur-de-lion, 1791). His own most popular original work was the opera Kopparslagaren (‘The Coppersmith’), set by J. D. Zander in 1781; it had 58 performances to 1808. He wrote or translated more than 80 texts before losing his eyesight in 1802" (Grove Music Online). |
