Description |
Stapled as issued in publisher's printed wrappers (grubby, backstrip worn, foot of front wrapper worn, left side of back wrapper, small tears and old folds). Written for the band of Sheldon High School, Eugene, Oregon; Leonard John, director. The hymn "Chester", which serves as the theme of this composition, was first included in Billings' hymn collection The Singing-Masters' Assistant, published in Boston in 1770. It served as a marching song during the Revolutionary War. It is, perhaps, the best known and most popular of Billings' many hymns and anthems, having been included in many later collections. |
