Description |
Quarter calf (rubbed, corners bumped and worn) with embossed decorative (foliate/floral) cloth (front separating from the board). Inscribed and signed by the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864) on the recto of the frontispiece portrait: "à Madame la Comtesse de Westmorland, hommage de la plus sincère vénération & du plus respectueux dévouement, Giacomono Meyerbeer". Jane Fane (née Saunders (1783-1857), Countess of Westmorland, was the second wife of John Fane (1759–1841), 10th Earl of Westmorland; "she was a patron of the poet John Keats and his friend, the artist Joseph Severn, and later a supporter of Lord Byron, despite her friendship with Lady Caroline Lamb (who first met Byron at the countess's house)". |
