Polished calf with marbled boards, and gilt, lacking front cover. Half title worn and missing at corners, lower outer corners of opening pages worn. The second edition, substantially revised from the first of the previous year, includes the author's lengthy Reply to criticism by William Hayes (1708-1777) in the latter's Remarks on Mr. Avison's Essay (1753). Also with "Proposals for Publishing by Subscription, Specimens Of the various Stiles in Musical Expression". |
