Black morocco (slightly rubbed). Manuscript copy in black ink in the hand of Cecil M. Humphries [Cecil Montague Humphries (1881-1972)] with calligraphic and colour-illuminated title and dedication leaf. Dedication: "To Mr Stephen Kemp [Stephen Benjamin Kemp (b.1849-fl.1907)], Dear Sir, As a slight recognition of my extreme gratitude for the inestimable teaching so ably and cordially imparted during the past nine years, and of my personal esteem for your valued friendship, a friendship which I sincerely trust may continue unbroken; this volume is offered by, Your affectionate Pupil, Cecil M. Humphries, March 1907"; the date in a charming linking pattern. The concerto was first published in score in 1861 in Hamburg (only one copy located). |
